Christmas Time

On December 14 (my padres birthday) I spent the night with my dear daddio decorating our holiday tree. This is one thing I look forward to every year, I always start to feel the Christmas spirit on this day. My dad assembles the tree and loads it up with lights, and I go crazy making sure its covered with all of our mix matched collection of ornaments. My favorite being my ceramic hand print from way back when I was in a pre school.

This past weekend my cousin and I ventured into Manhattan to go see the Christmas Hoopla in Rockefeller Center. When I say mob scene it is by no means an understatement, people were everywhere, you would think Christmas trees were falling from the sky it was so crowded. There's something about NYC that makes you not care so much about the crowds though, just seeing all the families together taking pictures, smiling, laughing, and enjoying their time together for me, is better then  seeing the sights. I love spending time with my family. I had so much fun exploring the city with my cousin, I cannot wait for our next trip in.

Today was my last day of work until the new year. We had three days of festive holiday parties. I don't think  I've ever heard or watched so many Christmas songs or movies. I love this time of year at work. We have so many laughs, everyone is in such good spirits and the kids are so excited for Santa. It helps to bring back the magic in believing. Happy Holidays

Hair rescue

Once cold weather comes around my skin and hair take a drastic change for the worst.
My ends literally felt like a Brillo pad.... Not so nice.
So this past weekend I did some research on natural ways to treat dry and/or damaged hair.
I came across this miracle worker. Olive Oil.
Who would of thought something you keep in the kitchen would be an inexpensive rescue treatment to the mess of hair I had going on.
I've been using it every three or four days now, I put a quarter size amount in my palm and run it through my hair concentrating mostly on my ends. I do dab whats ever left on my palm, around the crown of my hair,
that's where my skin gets super dry.
I wrap my hair in a high tight bun and sleep with the treatment in and give it a good rinse in the morning.
I have naturally curly hair and no matter what products I have tried or how much money I have spent,
my hair has never held up this shine or softness.
I have a new addition to my beauty regimen and I am obsessed.

Holiday Spirit

This time of year comes so fast, Once Thanksgiving passes I usually have to stop a realize Christmas is just around the corner. In realizing that I come to realize I haven't even thought of Christmas shopping or what the right gifts to buy are and with that I usually get quit Grinch like. I get stressed and over whelmed. This year is no different in the Christmas shopping aspect, I just stopped and smelled the coffee today that I have 26 days to complete my holiday list, but I have to say this year I am not stressing. I'm putting my energy towards something positive this year. ART. I've helped our three year old classroom gain A little holiday cheer:)

(The kids loved watching me paint the famous SANTA CLAUS)

While sharing classroom photo's I figured I'd share one of my favorite projects. The family tree project! We sent ours out two weeks before Thanksgiving, so kids could share their families and tell us who and what they are thankful for. I added my addition to our Family Tree wall this morning. I loved being able to share some of my favorite family photos with the children in class. It's also such a comforting feeling to have treasured memories displayed in the workplace. I love it:)

Delicious

Over the Thanksgiving break I had some fun experimenting in the kitchen. I tried out a delicious stuffing with sauteed celery, garlic and apples, mashed sweet potatoes with brown sugar and butter, and string bean casserole. Last night I thought It would be fun to re-create one delicious dish from  Page One Restaurant, called Onion Crusted chicken. I made the main dish along with two sides, lemon pepper wild rice, and string beans.

Onion Crusted Chicken Recipe
4 large boneless skinless chicken breast
1 package Lipton's onion soup mix
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Balsamic Vinaigrette
Italian seasoned breadcrumbs

  • Clean chicken breasts, remove fat and rinse with warm water.
  • Mix balsamic dressing and E.V.O.O in small bowl.
  • Mix onion soup mix and one large handful of breadcrumbs in another bowl.
  • Dip each chicken breast in dressing mixture and cover with dry mix.
  • Place in a casserole dish.
  • Repeat for all 4 chicken breasts.
  • Drizzle remaining dressing on top and around the chicken and add remaining dry mix.
  • Bake in oven at 350 degrees for a half hour.
  • Take chicken out and flip over, add more E.V.O.O if needed.
  • Bake for another thirty minutes.
  • Take out and ENJOY :)

HOME AWAY FROM HOME

I was at my happiest about two weeks ago when I went to Florida for five fast days to visit my home away from home for Halloween!! Whenever I head out that way, my best friend and I are always searching for something new and fun to do. This time we opted for lunch at a new local brewery, Bj's Brewhouse. They had a nice selection of home brewed beers, my personal favorite being the Pumpkin Ale, its like pumpkin pie in a beer! DELICIOUS! The Spinach stuffed Mushrooms and Avocado Egg rolls were perfect as well! Bj's might be one of my new favorite spots in South Florida!

( Me & The beautiful BESTIE out to lunch)

( The delicious stuffed mushrooms and avocado egg rolls)

In the search of last minute additions to our homemade Halloween costumes we thought that searching through the racks of a goodwill store might be the perfect spot to look. To our surprise we came across a hidden treasure that I could not resist slipping into.... Can you guess what it is? A miraculous find that any fashionista would drool over. A Vera Wang dress for a fabulous price of $80!!! Now ladies after a hit like that.. cant you see my fascination with thrifting! :)

miles of skies

Last night I was looking on tumblr for pages on long distance relationships for the comfort that I am not alone in having a boyfriend that is miles away from me. In my search I came across a page that featured this moving song about someone your longing to be with. It is a song written and recorded by a girl named Nicole Gartz and her long distance lover Landon Ortiz. I hope this song takes off and can comfort others dealing with the hurt of being away from the people they long most to be with.

Hell on Heel's

Miranda Lambert couldn't say it better herself. Hell on Heel's was most definitely our anthem for the evening. Last Thursday my cousin and I ventured our way into Manhattan to experience Fashion Night Out. Needless to say after experiencing it once, it will forever be on my agenda for years to come. Whether I be in Miami, LA or NYC. We kept it simple staying in Times Square. We joined the FNO challenge in which we had to go into five of the twenty stores participating in the nights festivities and head back to the PINK CARPET with some sort of proof! Needless to say we did and we did it well :) Our names were therefore entered in a drawing for a 1,000 dollar shopping spree!!!!! Doesnt get better then that!  I feel every girl should experience this at least once in their lifetime, if shopping isn't for you, FNO will make it for you. Being in your favorite store transformed into a city hotspot, with a little help from the endless free champagne, to the hottest music being played by DJ Pauly D himself.... Im sorry shopping on a normal day doesnt feel the same after that adventure!!

A Welcome Back...

The last time we spoke I was obsessing about becoming a vegetarian again... That lasted all of six days until I discovered all the heavenly delights Chipotle has to offer. I was hooked once I experienced the delicious burrito bowl, but not to worry, I still stand by my healthy living choices. Recently I began reading Bethenny Frankels book Naturally Thin and I am dying to read A Place of Yes. I have learned all good things in regards to my body, mind, and soul. She has inspired me to be more conscious of balancing out what I put into my body.
These past few months I have also been inspired by Buggie and Jellybean to create a more personal family geared blog in which I started  Nibbie Boobala and Me but while on vacation and only after six posts my computer crashed on me and it gave me some time to think that nb&m might turn more into a journal rather then how I envisioned the blog to appear. So now here I am three months later combining my personal blog and my love to all things creative into one blog that I promise to keep up!
AFTER ALL THERE  CAN ONLY BE ONE BOHO BARBIE <3

Earth Day

With Earth Day approaching, I have been thinking about what I can do to make a difference and lighten my carbon footprint on this beautiful earth. With help from Alicia Silverstone and her book The Kind Diet I have decided that becoming a vegetarian again will be a good place to start. I can join forums and keep posted with PETA and Alicia's blog. Making this decision I already feel more confident with my body, knowing that I am one more person who is willing to make a difference within myself and within the world in which I live makes me feel like I am doing something right.

Spring Pastels and A whole lot of Lilly

Sorry for the hold that has been put on my site, this has been quit a week. Last Saturday I ventured out for my aunt and uncles 25th wedding anniversary. With the New York weather feeling more like spring I thought it would be best to dress for the occasion, in a Lilly Pulitzer bottom down shirt and a pair of white skinny jeans from Free People, white wedges from Charles David, and a spring green headband to pull the look together. My cousins pastel shirt and skinny tie were the perfect compliment to my spring outfit!

This spring one of  my personal favorite color's has made a come back! COBALT BLUE! I cannot wait to break out my gladiator sandals to add some fun to a basic outfit!
Cobalt blue is making an appearance in Jcrew's bridesmaid line. Also M.A.C. features the fun color in eye shadows and nail polish. I cant help but notice the color everywhere I turn. Target's home line even features throw pillows, dinner wear, and bedding in the color!

Adventure

Hey everyone, Welcome to Boho Barbie!
Here I will share with you all things Art, Fashion, and Everything inbetween!! I hope you enjoy it :)
                                                                                                             Xoxo Jaim

I am huge on thrift store shopping, not only is it Eco friendly but its the perfect way to get designer clothing for amazing prices. Shopping at one of my favorite spots yesterday I noticed this seasons must have color, Coral was on display. I tried on a few beautiful pieces in the color, noticing for me Coral isnt the best shade for my pale skin tone. I was very dissapointed in that finding, as you can see here Coral does add a nice pop to an assamble.

(This is a more extreme approach, but something about it captivates me to share.)

Mesh Back Button Tank

(Here is a more subtle approach to the shade.Free People's new spring line is loaded with Coral basic's that can be worn mixed and matched for multiple statement pieces.)

Today here in NY the weather is a  way to bring in April, They weren't kidding when they say April showers bring May flowers. With that i figured it be the perfect day to share with you some of my favorite rainy day gear! My Chooka boots made an appearance today. I love them, Comfortable and stylish paired with jeans or leggings.

Enjoy these! Stay dry New York
